Salley – Mr. Glen Elton Young, 77, died peacefully Saturday, July 14th, 2007 at home after a short and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Glen is survived by a daughter Glenda Y. and her husband Walter Furtick of Springfield; a son George Robert and his wife Kathy Young of Denmark, his grandchildren Maegen and Steve Ayala, John Furtick and Taylor Young, His siblings are Norma Whetstone of Columbia, Iris Lake of Florida, Myrtle Quattlebaum of Blackville and Sonny Young of Salley. Mr. Young was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Debbie Rose Ezelle Young, and his brothers Kenneth and Karthel Young. He was born in Salley on October 8, 1929 to the late Lenward Hiriam Young, Sr. and Iola Poole Young.
Glen was a devoted member of Salley First Baptist Church and a Past Master of Dean Swamp Masonic Lodge # 172. He was a member of the Henhouse Ministry which helps people both locally and universally. He was a proud lifetime member of Sparkleberry Golf Club. Mr. Young served our Country in the U. S. Marine Corp from 1946 – 1951. He fought in the Korean War and received a Korean service medal with three stars and a purple heart. He loved the outdoors, spending time bird watching, fishing and hunting. His mission in life was serving God, family and his fellow man…He Was Successful!
Visitation is Monday, July 16th from 6 to 8 pm in the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home (803) 564-5333, 163 Main Street South. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday July 17th at 1:00 p.m. in the Salley Baptist Church with the Reverends Harold Kirkland and Henry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Poole’s Family Cemetery with Masonic Rites and Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Henhouse Ministry, 1558 Whetstone Rd., Hwy #3, Swansea, SC 29160. The family expresses their gratitude to the staffs of TRMC and Trinity Hospice.
