Pelion - Doris Lee “Mawee” Wise, 79, passed away Monday at home in Pelion after a difficult illness. She loved God and was a faithful member of the church of Christ for more than 60 years. She was married to Harvey P. Wise, Sr. for 61 years. Together they raised four children – Harvey (Kari) Wise, Jr., Debbie (Dan) Cannon, Jeffery Bruce (Sherry) Wise, Sr., and Barry D. (Selena) Wise. She graduated from Brookland Cayce High School in 1954. In 1973 she returned to school to become an LPN. Although she only worked in that profession for a few years, she was a nurse to many for the rest of her life. She operated Little Rascals Day Care in the 80’s where she and Harvey, Sr. became known as “Mawee” and “Boppy” to kids and grownups alike. She loved to travel, crochet, watch the Braves and spoil her 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was the daughter of Charles Henry Robert Lee and Elizabeth Hare Lee. Her surviving siblings are Charles “Buck” Lee, Betty Lee Bloom, Katherine Lee Grooms, Mattie Lee Chavious and her sister-in-law Ruby Lee. She was predeceased by siblings Leroy Buster Lee, Paige Geiger Lee, Robert E. Lee, Zudora Lee Clegg, Mary Alice Lee Shealy, Kenneth Lee and William Lee.
The entire extended family spent many hours helping Boppy care for Mawee but we are grateful for all of the support from their church family (church of Christ that meets at Airport) and the community during this time. There are too many folks to mention but we especially wish to thank Donna Fulmer for her continuous care and support. We also wish to thank the staff at Tri County Home Health for their compassionate care for her and their constant support for the family.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 23rd from 6 to 8 PM at Blizzard Funeral Home Chapel, 163 Main Street S, Wagener, SC 29164. Services will be Friday, July 24th at 10 AM also at Blizzard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Pelion, SC 29123.
