Mrs. Frances, as she was known to many, was the daughter of Fred Clay and Leila Cofer Lybrand. She was born in Wagener and grew up on a farm in New Holland.  She was a child of the Great Depression, and those hard times were expressed throughout her life. She was ultra conservative in all that she did finding new uses for many discard items. She was a multifaceted lady and excelled in all she did. Beyond her love for God and her family, her greatest passion was sewing and needlework. She designed and sewed most everything she wore. Every outfit was a Frances Tyler original; one Sunday after church services, she said that she would really have it made if she learned how to make shoes. She began her sewing and needlework at age 12 and continued into her 80’s until her eyesight failed. She made over 80 quilts beginning with cutting out the coordinated color pattern to hand quilting each one to the end. She graciously shared her handwork with her family and friends.

Mrs. Frances was married to Charlie Eugene “Gene” Tyler, Jr. and was married 63 years until his passing in 2007. They worked side by side in the family Red and White grocery business for over 50 years, retiring in 2001. Their combined dedication to work afforded them a good living, as well as, the opportunity to serve others. Mrs. Frances was an active member of First Baptist Church, Wagener; she was Ladies I Sunday school teacher for over 20 years and was active in WMU and served on many church committees. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter LeMyra Tyler Young (Garry) and her son Charlie E. Tyler, III (Ann), grandsons Tyler A. Young, Charlie E. “Chet” Tyler, IV, and R. Todd Tyler, brothers George M. Lybrand and Jack V. Lybrand (Melba) of Columbia and Bobby G. Lybrand (Mary) and brother-in-law M. D. “Shorty” Tyler of Wagener, beloved pets Mr. Buddy and Miss Kitty and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, two brothers F. Cofer Lybrand and Norman D. Lybrand, and infant sister.
