Wagener - Mr. Raymond Charles Thurston, 74, formerly of Greenville entered into rest Saturday, April 2, 2016.
Mr. Thurston was married to the late Carolyn Griffin Thurston for 45 years prior to her death in 2008. He was the father of Martha L. Thurston of Wagener and Terry Thurston and his wife Melinda of Liberty. Mr. Thurston was the grandfather of Charles Thurston, Kyle Robertson, Tyler Thurston and his wife Melanie, Phillip Addis and his wife Amanda, Blair Bearden and her husband Randy and Dillon Addis. He was the great grandfather of Lillian “Lilly” Addis and Layla Addis. He was the brother of Kenneth Thurston and Linda Lawson of Greenville and brother-in-law of Willie Mae Thurston of Piedmont.
Mr. Thurston was born in Greenville to the late Robert Haskell and Margaret Ruth Clark Thurston. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Harold Thurston and Larry Joe Thurston, Sr. Mr. Thurston was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Piedmont prior to moving to Wagener and becoming a member of First Baptist Church of Wagener.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 pm Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in the First Baptist Church of Wagener with a time of fellowship following. Pastor Ken McDonald is officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 9813 Anderson Road, Piedmont, S. C. 29673 from 12 pm to 1 pm with a Memorial Service beginning at 1 pm with Pastor Johnny Touchet officiating.
