Mr. Dick was the father of Betty Nimmons (Sam) of Irmo, Peggy Mann (Charles) of Chapin, Donald Sturkie (Judy) of Wagener and Ronald Sturkie (Brenda) of Salley. Mr. Dick was the grandfather of Craig (Janine) Nimmons, Stacy (Steve) Lohr, Brian Mann, Dodie (Daniel) Smith, Zach Sturkie, Garrett Sturkie and Brandon Sturkie and great grandfather of Ellie Nimmons, Malia Lohr, Samuel Lohr, Will Lohr, Alanah Guigou, Marlee Sturkie. He was one of nine siblings with one brother, Roy (Joanne) Sturkie of Texas surviving.
Mr. Dick was born in Swansea, the son of the late Daniel and Marie Spires Sturkie. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years – Gertrude Sturkie, his second wife of 30 years -Shirley Sturkie, and a grandchild – Traye Bradley. Mr. Dick was a Deputy Sheriff for Aiken County for 6 years, Bus Superintendent for Wagener-Salley Schools for many years and retired as Superintendent of Roads and Bridges in Aiken County. He was a life long farmer. He attended Bethcar Baptist Church for many years.
Visitation will be Monday from 10 to 11 am in the Bethcar Baptist Church. A Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Dick, will be held at 11 am Monday also in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Chris Addy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
