Pelion - Mr. Willie Drew “Jack” Stone, 80, entered into rest Sunday, July 17, 2011.
Mr. Stone is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Lettie Kneece Stone, son Gerald Stone and his wife Linda of West Columbia, grandchildren; Michael Stone, Bryant (Mandy) Stone, Eddie “James” (Robin) Stone, Laurie Lawhorn, and Larry Marine, great grandchildren; Robbie, Jaycee, Walker, Wyatt, Quaide, Mariah, Ashlei, Maddisson, Britney and Hunter, sister-in-law Blanche, numerous nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Stone was born in Batesburg, the son of the late Eugene and Pauline Boatwright Stone. He was also predeceased by brothers; Billy G. Stone and Dale M. Stone. Mr. Stone was a member of Florence Baptist Church and the Pelion Masonic, Elmore Lodge # 288. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and retired from the U. S. Army Reserve. Mr. Stone was a past board member of the Lexington County Medical Center. He also served as Deputy Coroner for Lexington County. Mr. Stone, along with his brother Billy, were founding members of the Pelion Community to start the Pelion Rescue Squad.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home, 163 Main St. South, Wagener, SC. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Pelion Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Tim Driggers officiating. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Stone requested that donations of food and/or monetary donations be made to Pelion Area Compassionate Encouragement (PACE) through the Pelion Church of the Nazarene, P. O. Box 86 Pelion, SC 29123.
