Pelion - Mr. Vallory Lee “Val” Smith, Sr., 72, entered into rest Wednesday, May 28, 2014. He struggled with Alzheimer’s Disease for a number of years.
Mr. Val was born January 26, 1942 in North Carolina, to the late Elvin L. and Ethel “Nita” Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife Margie W. Smith, grandchildren Joshua Scott Smith and Dexter Leroy Johnson, and brother David T. Smith.
Mr. Val is survived by a daughter Katie Lynn Smith, two sons Teddy L. Smith and John E. Smith, brothers Jerry (Janie), Walter, Keith (Kitty), Stephen (Linda), Judson Sr. and Joe (Melinda) Smith and sisters Ann (Ligon) Dougherty, Susan Hite, Kathy (Bobby) Holmes, Sharon Smith, Coralie (Archie) Sharpe, and Laurelie (Bill) Gabali, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Val always enjoyed music and being outdoors. During the last several months, he talked about milking cows, planting gardens, big tomatoes, and working on fences! He spoke about heaven and his mother telling him about Jesus. He sang “Jesus Loves Me” and “Amazing Grace”. He said that “Jesus is the Lord God…that He died for everybody’s sin…and His blood makes us right for God so we can be in heaven where He is with God…He’s the only way to get there, you know.”
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
