Pelion – Mr. John Elsie “J. E.” Shumpert, 98, entered into rest Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
Mr. J. E. was the father of Dwain (Eugene) Smith, Gerald (Wendy) Shumpert and Melba (Martin) Hutto. He was the grandfather of John (Danielle) Reiner, Fran Harding, Brian P. (Amanda) Shumpert, Deirdre (Garrett) Smith, Kristi (Jonathan) McElveen, Nicholas Hutto, and the late Ann Flanagan. Mr. J. E. was great grandfather of Wyatt James Reiner, Mandi Harding, Sarah Harding, Kristina Flanagan, Shannon Chaffin and Michael, Anna Claire Shumpert, Cade Preston Shumpert, Dawson Smith, Ansley McElveen, and Harley McElveen. He was the last living sibling of twelve.
Mr. J. E. was born in Pelion to the late John David and Florence Taylor Shumpert. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucretia Fulmer Shumpert. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII. Mr. J. E. an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Pelion.
Funeral Services will be 4:00 pm Friday, Sept. 16th at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelion with the Rev. William Ebener officiating. Burial will follow in the King Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 3:45 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Parish Hall.
