Fairview – James “Theo” Shumpert, 79, passed away Sunday January 16, 2011.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Pauline Church of Christ with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Rick Farwell will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Eddie West, Mike Jennings, Wendell Kirkland, Rhett Padgett, Danny Rawls, Stanley Shumpert, Derwin Shumpert, Dennis Padgett, and Trevor Padgett. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pauline Church of Christ at 3036 Fairview Road, Leesville, SC 29070.
Mr. Shumpert was born July 8, 1931; he was the son the late Cephus Coleman and Magdalene Roland Shumpert. Mr. Shumpert worked at the Savannah River Site and was a retired farmer. He was also a veteran of the U. S. National Guard.
Mr. Shumpert is predeceased by his wife; Becky Day Shumpert and a son, James Doyle Shumpert. He is also predeceased by brothers Clyde, Alfred and Curtis Shumpert. Mr. Shumpert is survived by his daughter, Wendy Shumpert West and son-in-law Tim West, his much loved granddaughters; Haley Rebecca W West and Abigail Margaret West, sisters Elaine (James) Ward, Angie Anders, and Annette (Gerald) Padgett, and brothers; Wendell (Ethel) Shumpert, and Larry (Judy) Shumpert, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Shumpert’s straight-talking and determination made him a unique individual that will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Tri-County Hospice (Lisa and Debbie) for their care, concern and compassion during our time of need.
