Wagener – Mr. Ernest Franklin Shuler, 89, entered into rest Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the home of his daughter in Honea Path, SC.

Mr. Shuler was born in the Providence Community of Holly Hill on November 14, 1926 to the late Frank Lever and Bertha Inabinette Shuler. He graduated from Providence High School in 1943 and entered USC in July of that year. He was called into the service in 1944. After his discharge from the service he re-entered USC and graduated in December of 1948 with a BS in Pharmacy. Mr. Ernest first worked in Bull’s Drug Store in Holly Hill. He also worked at Eckerd’s Drug Store in Columbia and Platt’s Drug Store in Graniteville for about 8 ½ years before buying his own drug store in Wagener. He and his wife operated the Wagener Drug Store from 1962 until he retired in 1996.

Mr. Ernest was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was a member of the Graniteville American Legion Post 77. He was a member of Wagener United Methodist Church and a life member of the South Carolina Pharmacy Association. Mr. Ernest loved to talk. He loved yard work and sharing the bounty of his garden.

Mr. Ernest is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geneva Cockrell Shuler; daughter Jean (Butch) Parker; grandson Charles (Aunnie) Parker; granddaughter Carla (fiancé Devin Cook); great grandson Sean Combs; sister Lois (Dr. Birnie) Shuler Haigler Johnson; sister-in-law Lucia Shuler Hill; brother-in-law Andy Dantzler. He is also survived by two nephews and five nieces. Mr. Ernest was predeceased in addition to his parents, his son Charles Ray Shuler; infant granddaughter Amy Parker; sister Doris Dantzler; brother Carlisle Shuler and brother-in-law Joe Haigler.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 7th from 6 to 8 pm in the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Shuler will be held Thursday at 11 am in the Wagener United Methodist Church. The Reverends Jim Bennett and John Hipp will minister the funeral.  Mr. Ernest will be placed in the church an hour prior to the service for viewing. The interment will follow in the Wagener Cemetery.
