Salley - Allene Gaston Salley, 99, died at the Oaks in Orangeburg on July 27th, 2011. She was the wife of the late H. Briggs Salley, Sr. of Salley, SC. A Native of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late John Williford Gaston, Sr. and Nettie Griffin Gaston of Duncan, SC. She is survived by her sons George Salley and Briggs (Emily) Salley, Jr., granddaughter Stacey (Jamie) Wagner, grandson Stewart (Sandy) Salley, four great grandchildren; Daniel Salley, Kristen Salley, Warren Salley, and Andrew Wagner, and a great great grandson Riley Salley.
Mrs. Salley was educated in the Spartanburg City Schools and was a graduate of Converse College, Class of 1933. She was a teacher in the Campobello and Spartanburg High Schools.
After marrying Mr. Salley, she became active in civic and church affairs in Salley. She was an active member of Salley Baptist Church: Sunday School Teacher, pianist, organist, choir member, WMU Secretary/treasurer and church clerk. She was a charter member and Secretary/treasurer for the Salley Garden Club and Secretary/Treasurer of the Salley Oakview Cemetery Committee. She was also the bookkeeper for HB Salley Cotton Company.
Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 pm with the funeral service following at 3:00 pm on Saturday July, 30. Both will be held at Salley Baptist Church. Graveside service will follow immediately at Salley Oakview Cemetery. The Reverends Henry Cooper and Phillip Proveaux will conduct services.
