Pelion - Mr. Charles Travis “Skibow” Powell, 69, entered into rest Thursday, August 11, 2011.
Mr. Powell was the father of Debra Leilani and her husband Kinglsey P. Aweau, Jr., Sky Travis Aaron Powell, Shiloh Lynn Peck Hegel Taclan, Eric Peterson, Sam Ellis, Troy Britton and Steve Britton, Derrick Kaleikini and Renee Kaleikini Bueno and 152 beloved foster children. He was the grandfather of Korae Marie Leialohalani Damian, Jahstyn Kaipo Aweau, Chris Ohta, Isaiah Day, and 13 other grandchildren. Mr. Powell was the brother of the late Mary P. Whisenant, the late Lynda Sue Powell, Howard Powell, Hallie Powell, Roger Powell, Delores Powell, and Debbie P. Dunson.
Mr. Powell was born in Columbia, and was the son of the late Howard Chason Powell, Sr. and Gertrude Lucille Medlin Powell. He was the husband of the late Marlene Freitas Powell for forty-seven years who preceded him in death last December.
Mr. Powell was a co-founder of the Maui Farm which is a home for abused children. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Mr. Powell coordinated entertainment for the Hula Bowl Maui.
A Celebration of the life of Mr. Powell will take place Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Powell home (973 Bushberry Road, Pelion, SC 29123) beginning at 6 pm.
