Funeral:
Salley – Mrs. Peggy Browning Martin McGill, 89, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015. 

A lifelong resident of Salley, she was the daughter of the late James Buist and Florence Williamson Martin.  She was the wife of 39 years of the late Thomas Calhoun McGill, Sr., until his death in 1985.  She is survived by her four children: Tom McGill (Vickie) of Heathrow, FL; Jim McGill (Jennie) of Lexington, SC; Katherine Hicks (Allen) of Aiken, SC; and Sally Everhart (Dana) of Lawrenceville, GA; and a sister Floride Kammer of Isle of Palms, SC.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Ferris and a grandson, Andrew James McGill.

She leaves many grandchildren that she loved and cherished – Shawn Walker, Ceth McGill, Melissa McGill, Mark McGill, Allison Hicks Anderson (Adam), Julie Ann Hicks Cash (Dustin), Ashley Hicks, Matthew Everhart, Jacob Everhart and Katie Everhart; and great-granddaughters Ryleigh Anderson and Kylee Cash and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Peggy was a retired school teacher, having taught for many years in Loris, Windsor and Wagener-Salley High schools.  She and her husband owned and operated Johntown Store.  She was active in church and community as a member of Salley United Methodist Church, a member of Salley Town Council, a volunteer for the Salley Historical Museum and Chitlin Strut committees.

She was a spunky, kind woman who loved people and never met  a stranger, always helping those in need.  She enjoyed gardening reading and cooking for family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, April 17th from 6 to 8 pm in the chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, April 18th at 2 pm in the Salley United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dana Everhart, Allison Anderson and DeWitt Livingston officiating.  Burial will be in the Salley Oak View Cemetery.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Salley United Methodist Church, PO Box 446, Salley, SC 29137.
