Salley – Mrs. Betty Smith Martin, 71, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 22, 2008.
Mrs. Martin is survived by children James Michael “Mickey” (Tammy) Williamson of Salley, Kim (Mike) Folk of Orangeburg and Sherry Martin (Ray) Scott of Graniteville, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and sisters Mary “Corkie” (Mann) Bolin of Salley, Carolyn (John Henry) Huckabee of Lexington and Hazel Gleaton of Barnwell.
Mrs. Martin was born in Lexington County, the daughter of the late Thomas Cellus and Vera Marie Hutto Smith. She was predeceased by her husband Billy Ray Martin, children June Williamson, Kenneth Martin and Jimmy Martin, brothers T. S. Smith, J. C. Smith and sisters Judy Lee Smith, Mary Sager, Ruth Ulmer, Lessie Yon, Kay Chavis, and Marilyn Yon. She was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church and retired from the former Wagener Manufacturing Plant. The family expresses their appreciation and thanks to Mary James who was her care-giver and her best friend Doris Gleaton and Debra Poole.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Blizzard Funeral Home, 153 Main St. South, Wagener, SC (803) 564-5333 and other times at her sister Corkie’s home. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in the Clinton United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Williamson officiating. Mrs. Martin will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service for viewing. Pallbearers will be Johnnie Huckabee, Billy Leach, Jimmy Leach, Sean Poole, Dale Yon and Kenny Yon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Clinton United Methodist Church at 333 Hollow Creek Road, Salley, SC 29137.
