Swansea - Walter Herbert Jeffcoat, lifetime resident of Swansea, SC, died on December 27th, 2009. He was 58. He died of complications from cancer.
He worked for 23 years as a delime operator at Devro Inc., in Swansea. One could say that Walter looked at the world as naturalists do. He carried a love of the outdoors and a connection to wildlife. As an outdoorsman, he gained experience and knowledge of many Southeastern reptile species. Walter made frequent travels to the coast. He loved to catch fish and shrimp. He held special affection for the Santee area. Walter was a superior craftsman. He designed and built his home in 1984. It was a welcoming place for friends and family.
Walter is survived by his father and step-mother, Stacey and Dezeree Jeffcoat, and siblings, Stacey Jeffcoat, Jr., Gregory Jeffcoat, Carolyn Jeffcoat, David Ray Jeffcoat, James Alfred Jones, Gene Jones, Charles Jones, David Jones, James Livingston and Barbara Jeffcoat. Walter and his spouse of 31 years, Joan Jeffcoat, from whom he was currently separated, raised two strong children. His greatest pride and enjoyment rested in the lives of his daughter, Shannon, son, Kevin, and grandchildren, Ethan and Brooke Jeffcoat. Walter's affection extended to his children's spouses, daughter-in-law, Sherri Jeffcoat and son-in-law, Daniel Lake.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Walter Herbert Jeffcoat will be held on Saturday, January 2nd, 10:00am, at Blizzard Funeral Home, in Wagener, SC. Family will receive visitors from 9:00am to 10:00am and following the service.
The family acknowledges with gratitude the competent treatment and caring professionalism of the staff at Palmetto Health Richland. We extend appreciation to Dr. Mendiratta, nurses, the staff of Palmetto Health Richland Emergency Room, the Oncology Floor 11 East unit, including Palmetto Health Hospice staff who each took exceptional care of Mr. Jeffcoat and appeared to work in a seamless, caring community for him.
