Lydia Bodie Jackson entered into rest Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Agape Hospice in Columbia, SC, surrounded by her loving family and friends.  She was 83 years old.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Aiken County, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Dorothy Brown Bodie. Lydia is survived by her children Dottie (Bill) Hames of Lexington, SC, and William “Jimbo” Jackson of Salley;  her sister and brother-in-law, Sallie B. and Brodus Yon; her grandchildren Jennifer Fortune, April (Gregg Talente) Hames, Shelly Jackson and Jason Hames;  great-grandchildren Mallory, Meagan and Jack; her niece, Maxine Meetze; great nephew, Glen Tindal; special nephews Teddy and Ross Jackson and countless friends and extended family members.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years; William E. Jackson, Sr., daughter-in-law; Barbara Jackson, brother; Norman Bodie, sister; Helen B. Adams, and brother-in-law; Legare Jackson.

We will miss her love, cheerful spirit, wit and her singing those sweet hymns of praise to her Lord and Savior.  She was an encouragement to all who knew her, telling us how Jesus has kept her in His hand and delivered her from all harm during her life.

Her joy came from knowing that through Jesus’ death and resurrection she will be united with Him as well as her departed friends and family she has missed for so long.  She was ready to be united with the love of her life, William E. Jackson, Sr., again.  She now rests with Jesus and her sweet William, free of pain, loneliness and confusion.  Praise God!  To Him be the glory!

Lydia spent all of her life in the Berlin Community of Salley, SC.  She loved and cherished her family and friends, always making them laugh when she was around.  She lived a happy and fulfilled life as a farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother, Sunday School teacher and friend to anyone who would visit their farm.  She retired from her career at Wagener Manufacturing Company after over forty years of service.

We are profoundly grateful for the loving care and compassion of Janice Poole, Eleanor Derr, Tannis Scott and Christa Pou who will always be a part of our family.  We are also grateful for the care and compassion for Agape Hospice, Tri County Hospice, Helping Hands and Community Long Term Care.  God has been gracious in providing the care and comfort from these organizations over the years.  May God richly bless each and everyone for their love and care.

The family will receive friends at Blizzard’s Funeral Home at 163 Main Street South, Wagener, SC, from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 23.  A service in celebration of Lydia’s life will be at Berlin Baptist Church, 424 Crossthorn Road, Salley, SC, on Friday, February 24 at 3 pm.  All are welcome to come honor Lydia Jackson’s cherished life and homecoming.

Memorials may be made to Agape Hospice, 141 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210 or Hospice Care of Tri County, 105 Rodriguez, Orangeburg, SC, 29118.
