Sarah Frances Farmer Ellington
July 17, 1919 - August 2, 2015
Aiken, SC – Sarah Frances Farmer Ellington, 96, passed away Sunday at her daughter’s home. She was a woman of God and a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Sarah was born in Gastonia, NC on July 17, 1919 the oldest of thirteen siblings and moved to Aiken in 1951 with her husband and daughters. She was married to James Lee Ellington for 34 years. Sarah is survived by her daughter Merry Beth Garvin (Tom), grandchildren; Tommy (Stacy), Rae Leigh Warner (Kevin); great grandchildren, Trent, Cassie, Megan, Caleb and son-in-law; Ralph Day. She is also survived by siblings; Pete (Caroline), Joe (Judy), Pat Wilson, Tommy (Edith) and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband James Lee Ellington, daughter Dixie Lee Day, mother Kate Smith Farmer, father William Mac Farmer, brothers Jimmy and Max, and sisters Catherine and Barbara.
Sarah was a vibrant woman and enjoyed helping people for over twenty years at Aiken Office Supply and Bookstore where she retired in 1990. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. The family would especially like to thank Phyllis Butler and Trinity Hospice Care for their exceptional love and care.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Baptist Church, 3100 Vaucluse Road, Aiken, SC on Friday, August 7 from 1pm – 2pm with the funeral service to follow at 2:30. Burial will be after the service at Sunset Memory Gardens, 2148 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC.
