Wagener – Mr. James McLane “Mc” Cofer, 89, entered into rest Sunday January 16, 2011.
Mr. Cofer is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Alma Shumpert Cofer, children; Linda (Dick) Reynard of Leesville, and Jimmy (Penny) Cofer of West Columbia, grandchildren; Karla Ann Priester, Travis Williams and Michael Cofer, great granddaughter Bailey Syl Williams, sister Margaret Kirkland of Wagener and brother; Jack Cofer of New Ellenton.
Mr. Cofer was born in Wagener the son the late James Madison and Grace McLane Cofer. He is also predeceased by sister Glen Eve Gunter and brothers Sonny Cofer and Tony Cofer. Mr. Cofer was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of Pauline Church of Christ where he helped to develop Sunday School and taught for 52 years as well as being an Elder. He loved to farm, leading to teaching Ag Mechanics at several schools. Mr. Cofer especially loved growing Amaryllises. He operated a service station and was a U. S. Mail Carrier for many years.
Funeral Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Pauline Church of Christ with burial in the church cemetery with military honors. Pastor Rick Farwell will officiate. Mr. Cofer will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service for viewing. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm in the Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the church or charity of your choice.
