Salley – Mr. J C Chavis, 85, entered into rest Friday, January 14, 2011.
Mr. Chavis is survived by his wife of Sixty years; Nina Mae Gantt Chavis, children; Nancy (Homer) Williams of Perry, Marvin (Pamela) Chavis of Wagener and Patty (Pete) Chavis Williams of Salley, grandchildren; Dana Cooper, Tammy Cooper, Buffy Stoker, Jonathan (Liz) Chavis, Katie Williams and Savannah Williams, great grandchildren; Brandon Cooper, Cody Stoker, Caleb Stoker, Cade Byars, Baileigh Goolsby, Rennie Chavis, and Maci Love, sister; Mary Diamond of Neeses, and brothers; Vance Chavis of North, Lorenzo Chavis of Swansea, and W. L. Chavis of West Columbia.
Mr. Chavis was born in Orangeburg County, the son of the late Jeffie and Rosa Williams Chavis. He was also preceded in death by brother; Olin Chavis and sisters Ellen Jeffcoat and Emily Harley. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and a WWII veteran of the U. S. Army.
Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 pm at Blizzard Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Olin Wingate officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.
