Leesville—Duffy Jackie Burley, 63, husband of Jean Rae Gunter Burley for 28 years, entered into rest Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at his daughter’s residence in Pelion after fighting a short battle with stomach cancer. His immediate family and a schoolmate were by his side.
Visitation will be held at Blizzard’s Funeral Home Chapel in Wagener from 6 PM to 8 PM on Friday evening. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the J & M Singing Center in Gilbert. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Fairview under the direction of Rev. Jerry Risinger. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter at 1135 Whiskey Road in Leesville (Fairview).
Pallbearers will be Pat Allen Hutto, Roy Huffman, Eric Tharp, Mickey Tharp, Clent Gunter, William Senn, and George Gantt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Parker, Jerry Cook, Odell Corley, Joseph Scott, and Wayne Kneece.
Born March 4, 1945, in the Chinquapin Township of S.C., he was the son of the late Mildred Helen Berry Jeffcoat and Albert Burley, and step-son of the late Randolph Jeffcoat. Mr. Burley worked many years in the oil industry, working at both Shumpert Oil Company and Harmon Oil. He also worked at Columbia Farms for a short time before retiring at age 62.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children, daughters Michelle Burley of Pelion and Kristin (Chris) Oliver of Leesville; a son Scott Burley of Wagener; a brother, Ralph (Francis) Willis of Lexington; grandchildren, Ashley Hart of West Columbia, Justyn and Bo Burley of Pomeria, Belle Kneece of Pelion, Garrett and Abigail Oliver of Leesville; and great-grandchildren, Bryson and Kaylee Hart of West Columbia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the J&M Singing Center at 1749 Pond Branch Road in Gilbert. The family would like to thank Baptist Internal Medical Associates, Airport Pharmacy, Special Care Medical, Palmetto Health Baptist (ED, Radiology, Endoscopy, & 8th Medical), and Palmetto Health Homecare & Hospice with special thanks to Dr. Hubert Sammons, Dr. Michael Emmer, Dr. Jimmy Joye, Dr. Thomas Edwards, Dr. Anthony Lowman, Dr. Leland McElveen, and Palmetto Health Hospice Staff: Pam Morrison R.N., Jamie Gupta R.N., Lisa Tucker R.N., Camilla Hunter R.N., Kirk Douglas R.N., Joetta Bumgarner L.M.S.W., Jackie Thomas, C.N.A, and Charles Pollock, Hospice Chaplain.
